Welcome to Slamfire! An introduction might be in order: I'm Jon - a computer nerd by trade. I spent 10 years in the USAF, 6 of which were as a Security Forces member (aka Military Police), and the rest was as an Intelligence Analyst. During my time in the military, I had the pleasure of qualifying with several organic weapon systems. My interest in the shooting sports took blossomed and I jumped feet-first into increasing my knowledge and training in all things firearms-related.
I'm sure you're wondering what this blog is about, and to be completely honest I've not nailed down it's true purpose yet. I decided that I needed to have a creative outlet for my ramblings (what I like to pass off as "writings") and here we are. I do, however, know what we won't have on this blog: bias, intentional misinformation or politically-motivated rants.
What so I have in mind for Slamfire, you ask? Generally we'll have posts on my experiences with firearms, reloading, training, matches (I'm looking into IDPA and USPSA), and as I get in new equipment or get enough hands-on time with it, we'll have previews and reviews.
Regarding my reviews, I'd like to make the following known: I am a fair individual by nature, I also know that I will have only limited experience with products that others may never have an issue with. I can only report on my personal experiences, but I understand that my experience with a product may be outside the established norms experienced by the vast majority of users/customers (case in point: an upcoming Rock Island Armory 1911 CS Tactical review). I would be remiss by not reporting my experiences, however. At best, it's not giving the reader an honest account of the product and at worst, it could be viewed as favoritism towards a particular product or manufacturer. Once you're viewed as someone who is in the pocket of a specific manufacturer, it's game over for your journalistic integrity. If readers can't be absolutely certain in my integrity, how can they know I'm impartial to each product and manufacturer I write about?
I will be completely forthcoming about the experiences I have with Customer Service if I do have an issue with a manufacturer's product. There have been many times before in my life where I have been completely astounded (good and bad) with the CS experience and it has turned my opinion on a product completely around. If a manufacturer can stand behind their product to that extent, it further convinces me that I did indeed receive something that was not representative of the typical quality of that product.
So, there you have it. If you're looking for the TL;DR version, here it is:
I'm Jon, honest dude with no reason to lie to you, I'm not infallible and I like pie. Also, updates inbound. ;)
